Many people are stuck in a rut. They are afraid of change/ They are creatures of habit. As a result they live a monotonous life style. This often is reflected in their blog.
There are times when a monotonous life style is beneficial to you. But remember your blog is not for you. The purpose of your blog is to reach out and engage your readers.
Having a monotonous and one dimensional blog will not win you any brownie points.
So in order not to have a one dimensional monotonous blog, you need to introduce some kind of variety. After all Variety is the spice of a blogs life.
Vary your topics
This is often not as easy as one might think. After all you’ve chosen a niche. If your niche is not that wide, then you can be very limited in the topics your write about.
But this should not stop you in introducing new topics. The skill is to apply them to your niche.
Vary the format
What kind of format does your blog take? Do you have an introduction, three basic points and a conclusion.
Every post is like that. Then vary the format.
Perhaps you have a lecture type of post, perhaps you have a story type of post. Vary the format.
Introduce a few different formats of writing.
- Use a list post
- Publish an interview
- Write a review
- Write a case study
- Write a report
- Create a video post
- Rant about something
- Write something controversial
- Break some news
- Use a picture gallery
Vary the post length
There has been big debate whether one should write long or short posts. Long vs Short. Oh the great dilemma!
But in fact it is not a dilemma nor should it be a topic of great discussion. Why? Because you should use all three in your post.
Vary your post lengths. Write long posts, write short post. Post a few of medium length posts.
Vary the author
If you are the single author of your blog. This can often be very difficult. Multi-author blogs do not have this problem.
But a great way to introduce variety is to introduce a new guest blogger on your blog.
- They bring a new writing style.
- They bring a new topic.
- They bring a new point of view
- They bring new readers and new comments
- They breath new life into your blog.
Don’t be scared to ask for guest posts. the worst that can happen is they say no. But eventually you will get a few that will be glad to be a guest blogger for you.

Don’t let your blog become monotonous and boring. Remember people like you and me have to read it. We don’t want the same old same old.
We want to be inspired, challenged and changed.
