We all need to de-stress and look at the funnier side of life. There can be so many things that can cause us stress. The internet, and technology as a whole was meant to make life more simple, but in truth it has made it more complicated.

337/365: The Big Money It is very seldom that you spend time on the internet, whether by surfing, IM, Social Networks or email, and you do not get bombarded by tons of “Get Rich Quick” schemes. In this economic downturn, where everyone is looking for ways to make extra cash, “Get Rich” schemes might seem like good news to many.

The blogging world is no different. There are so many blogs that promise you big money. So many blogs out there are full of posts on how you can make big money blogging. More and more stories are appearing on blogs and news sites about “professional” bloggers earning six figure incomes. One has to ask the question. Can anyone with a blog virtually print money?

Few and Far Between The truth of the matter is that blogs might be able to achieve many things, making huge amounts of money is not the norm. Six or even five figure bloggers are few and far between. There was a time when this seemed to be a lot. But that was when there were only a few thousand blogger. Now there are millions. The competition has gotten tougher and the money has been spread very thin.

For each of the handful of bloggers that do earn upwards of 100k, there are a 1000 good professional bloggers who do not earn a dime from their excellent blogs. Blogging still has a long way to go before it becomes an established and recognised profession.

Hard Work. Most people who start out blogging soon hit the hard wall of reality and realise that this is not as easy as everyone makes it out to be. Blogging, and being successful takes blood, sweat and tears.

Most...

Often blog posts are long well researched well composed articles. Normally articles are of reasonable length, about 400-800 words. Longer than just a few paragraphs. Is this then the norm? Are you afraid of writing short blog posts?

I have been. Have always thought that a blog post cannot be worthwhile and valuable if it is short.

Here are some things to consider.

Pros.

Quick Sharp and to the point. Take less time, when you have little to spare. Readers will often read through instead of scanning over. A number of short blog posts can be spread over time into a series. Easier to optimise for SEO. Forces you to stay on topic. Less chance to make mistakes. Cons.

You feel you’re cheating your readers out on quality content. Can be difficult to be brief. Can be shallow. Hard to start a discussion and drive home a point. What’s your experience? Do you like short or long?

Life is full of rules and consequences. One of the most challenging things as a father is teaching those rules to your kids. Not just to obey them and live by them, but to understand the consequences and responsibilities.

I’m not just talking about following the law but something that goes way deeper than that which would include laws by it’s very nature. It’s all about how we interact with the world.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Not only does this apply to our lives and how we interact and socialise with people on a day to day basis but it should be applied to our blogs and how we interact socially on the internet.

If you want people to read, comment and interact with your blog, then guess what, you have to do the same.

If you want people to read your blog, become a reader. What’s a blog without readers? You should really know the answer to this question. Like you, there are many bloggers who seek to get more readers to their blogs. If you show them the courtesy and ready their blogs, guess what. They will return the favour. You need to get out there and seek other blogs to follow those who are in your niche.

If you want comments, become a commenter. So many bloggers want to increase the comments on their blogs. It shows a sign of respect and acceptance. It is a sign that the article you wrote has meant something to someone. If you expect people to comment on your blog, then you had better start commenting on theirs and other blogs.

If you want your blog promoted, promote others. Not many people will get to hear about your blog without marketing it. There are many avenues available to us. But by far the best is a personal recommendation by someone else. Word of mouth. If you expect other people to market your blog on the internet, then be prepared to market theirs first.

If you want guest posts, become a guest poster. Guest posts are a wonderful way to build your community. It exposes new people to your blog, but also exposes you to new people. It can sometimes be difficult to secure guest posts. If you want people to guest post on your blog, be prepared to put in the extra effort and guest post on others.
