The FIFA 2010 Soccer World Cup is probably the most important and biggest sporting event in the world. Happening every four years, it focuses millions and millions of people all over the world onto one particular event, the Soccer World Cup
Using News Events to Drive Traffic
The FIFA 2010 Soccer World Cup is a month long event. It will be the primary news event for the month. It is what everybody will be talking about. It is what everyone will be searching for.
Now its not just the Soccer World cup that can drive traffic from Google, but any important news event of the day. Keep an eye out to see what is hot in the news, then use that to drive organic traffic from Google to your site.
Dominate Google
Did you know that 25% of Google search queries are unique. The simple reason is news and events. These are not items that stay long in the news. These are items that draw loads of attention very quickly.
Think along the lines of natural disasters, sports results, holidays, reality TV results, new products and so on. Think of a big event like the FIFA 2010 Soccer World Cup.
Using a tools like Google Trends you can pick up what kind of searches and items are popular. Using that as a basis to develop your keyword phrases you can start to dominate the Blogosphere because you will be writing articles around a topic that almost everyone will be searching about.
I succesfuly used Britains Got Talent and Susan Boyle to drive thousands of readers to my blog back in 2009.
The Challenge
Now we all know how important the FIFA 2010 Soccer World Cup is. How it will dominate news for the month. The challenge is to write articles that will leverage that importance.
Not everyone will have a soccer or sports blog. So finding ways to integrate the FIFA 2010 Soccer World Cup into your blog is going to be a challenge. It is going to take skill and ingenuity. But it is not impossible. Use that grey matter that God so graciously donated to you.
Blogs in the Lifestyle, sports, celebs, etc might be easier to use the soccer world cup event, but when it gets to technical blogs like mine and similar, it becomes more of a challenge.
But it’s not impossible. I can write about the technical enhancements surrounding the world cup. I can write about how this world cup will dominate Social Media. I can write about how you can use the FIFA 2010 Soccer World Cup to get loads of traffic from Google. Aha, hence this post.
What Works Well
Now that you’re excited about the FIFA 2010 Soccer World Cup and how it can bring tons of traffic from Google to your site, how do you leverage that.
Here are a few points that you should consider when writing your blog posts.
- Keyword research. Find out what phrases people are searching by.
- Putting the date in the post title. Not many people do this but surprisingly a lot of people search with it, e.g. 2010 World Cup
- Making sure the date and time of the post going live are visible on your blog post
- Building a few links to the most important posts via bookmarking sites (5 minutes of work) to give them a little more authority.
- Quality applicable content
- Use embeded videos
- Use related pictures
- Use the keywords to promote via social media like Twitter
Most importantly don’t just write an article about the FIFA 2010 World Cup. Especially if it is far removed from your niche. Quality content it still the name of the game.
By all means write about the soccer world cup, but make sure you apply that to your blog niche with quality.
If you do this wrong, you could actually lose readers instead of gaining them.
Conclusion
Using world events to drive traffic to your site is a brilliant tactic. But it will require skill to pull it off successfully.
