Can you believe that YouTube is only 5 years old. A company that servers over 1 billion videos per day. Do I need to repeat that. It’s amazing.
YouTube.com was registered on 14 February 2005, so officially that is YouTube's birthday. But the first video was uploaded on 23 April, so for many this remains the date at witch YouTube burst onto the internet.
The video is titled “Me at the zoo.” It was shot by Yakov Lapitsky and it’s only 19 seconds long, showing Jawed Karim at the San Diego Zoo. In October 2006 Google bought YouTube for $1.6bn. The rest as they say is history.
YouTube changed the way we interacted with the internet. Giving us the ability to not only upload out videos to the net, watch somebody else's videos, but it also gave us the opportunity to embed those videos in our websites and blogs.
A small step for video a giant step for the world wide web.
Where would the web be without YouTube today. Over the years it has given us so many great videos. Who can forget the Susan Boyle sensation. Which reached over 93 million views. Which was huge. But today there are others which have more. Lady Gaga’s Bad romance has reached over 180 000 000. Can you believe that.
Here along with the original video are what I would consider some of the very best at YouTube.
