Often blog posts are long well researched well composed articles. Normally articles are of reasonable length, about 400-800 words. Longer than just a few paragraphs. Is this then the norm? Are you afraid of writing short blog posts?

I have been. Have always thought that a blog post cannot be worthwhile and valuable if it is short.

Here are some things to consider.

Pros.

  • Quick Sharp and to the point.
  • Take less time, when you have little to spare.
  • Readers will often read through instead of scanning over.
  • A number of short blog posts can be spread over time into a series.
  • Easier to optimise for SEO.
  • Forces you to stay on topic.
  • Less chance to make mistakes.

Cons.

  • You feel you’re cheating your readers out on quality content.
  • Can be difficult to be brief.
  • Can be shallow.
  • Hard to start a discussion and drive home a point.

What’s your experience? Do you like short or long?
