I love Amatomu. I like what it does for the Blogsphere in South Africa. I like that its free and that it drives traffic to my site. I like that I can see some sort of stats about my blog. But come on, its so slow. When we eventually get to the site, log in and view our stats or ping our blog, we have fallen asleep at the wheel.
For some time now Amatomu's response has been nothing short of pathetic. Any real business would have lost major credibility as a result. What in the world is going on, what's up and when are they going to fix it.
Not only is it slow, but often I get a blank page, or a time out error, or a half filled page. This is just not on. But then you say, "Hey what do you expect from afree service". Free does not mean that it must be sub standard.
Amatomu is run and sponsored by the Mail & Guardian Online. A big company with lots of clout and a reputation to uphold. The reputation of Amatomu directly affects theirs even if it is free.
Free also does not mean that it doesn't make money. Amatomu can make a killing out of advertising. Why not pick up on the Adgator advertising drive. Its a 50/50 split. With the kind of traffic that Amatomu gets, and the importance of the site. They will make a killing. Just look at the stats:
- Page Rank 6
- Alexa traffic Rank Internationally of 32,205
- Alexa Traffic Rank South Africa 199 (That's top 200 website in SA)
- Yahoo Links stats = 355,000
Seems to me that if Amatomu plays their cards right, they can earn enough to give a better service as well as pay some serious salaries. So then why aren't they doing that. Well that must be the million dollar question.
Change your server. Change your host / asp. Change your IT. Hey give it to me, I'll take it over and make it work. What ever you do, do it now and do it right, because you're missing a huge opportunity.
Having to put the Amatomu scipt on my blog page is killing my site. I don't know how long I can take it any more. Is it bringing enough traffic to my site to warrent it staying there even though it so slow. Will I loose users because they see my site as extremely slow and have no idea that it is Amatomu and not me, so they leave.
I will give it a try a little while longer to see if the Mail&Guardian fix Amatomu, then take the script off my blog. Question though is, where else do we go to get our blog aggregated. Afrigator? Are they as good?
