Don't put me down.

Just come from visiting family. It's a great time and every one has fun and shares a lot of memories and great stories. But then it turned into a who's better than who argument, and eventually ended in putting other family members down. Whether they deserved it or not was not the point, but it did leave a bitter taste in my mouth.
This got me thinking about bloggers. So many bloggers and readers end up downing someone else's character in either a blog post or blog comment. Which should and often does leave a bitter taste in my mouth.
Even on this blog, I have had people tell me in no uncertain terms that I do not know what I am talking about. People make all sorts of foul comments. The question I have to ask, is it really in the spirit of being social. Should we really start to bash other people through this medium.
It is one thing to share your views, quite another to tarnish someone else's character. Here are a few things that as bloggers I believe we should adhere too, in the spirit of kindness and goodness. It's what being social is all about.
Be sure of the facts - Before entering into a debate make sure you have all facts at hand. Make sure you know both sides of the story. If not, be very clear to state that it is only your own point of view or opinion.
Be tactful - Tact is soreley lacking amongst the writing and social skills of many. Tact is dealing with someones short comings without being offensive.
Build up, don't destroy - It's so easy to destroy someone than to build them up despite their faults. We are so eager to point out someone faults but find it very hard to offer praise.
If you can't say anything good, don't say it at all - Wise words that I am sure many have heard, but few follow.
Don't retaliate - I'm sure you have all heard of the saying, "turn the other cheek". We are so short tempered and so quick to retaliate. Often the retaliation ends up to do more harm than good.
Forgive - To err is human to forgive is divine. Forgiveness is such a blessed thing but so difficult to do, why is that? Rather just forgive and get on with life.
Ask for forgiveness - Don't let pride stand in the way. If you have wronged someone, just ask them for their forgiveness. You'd be pleasantly surprised. It takes guts, and a real man, or women, to ask for forgiveness.
I sure hope you have a pleasant blogging day.
