Thumps-upLooking to improve your blog? Have a strong desire to increase your traffic? Have a strong desire to see more loyal readers to your blog? I guess you answered yes to all of these questions. Who wouldn't you? Things all around us improve. We get better cars, faster computers. We strive to be healthier, live longer. We endevour to improve our standards, and living conditions. All around us there are continual improvements. Why should you as a blogger be any different, why should your blog be any different.

Here are five things you can do that will improve your blog. It will improve the quality and quantity of your content, as well as improve and increase your traffic. If nothing else you will grow as a blogger.

1. Take your most popular article and write a sequel to it.

Take it up as a challenge to yourself. See if you can take your top article of all time, and write a sequel that would be able to beat it in terms of quality and traffic. Use it as a practice to taking another bloggers top article and writing a sequel or alternate post that will be able to top that.

2. Read a new forum in your niche for six months.

Forums are wonderful places to get ideas for posts from. It is also a fantastic place to answer questions, build credibility. After you’ve just browsed the questions and answers people normally post in forums, you’ll get a feel for who knows what they are doing, who is just blowing smoke, and — most importantly — what the real issues facing your particular niche are. Then write an article or series of articles to tackle those issues and problems

3. Openly challenge your 3 favorite bloggers.

If you can force your favorite bloggers to think harder, dig deeper, try harder — they’ll either improve their game even more (thus giving you greater value for your time) or you’ll realize you can find better things to do with your time than read their, boring blogs. By challenging others to raise their game, you challenge yourself to raise your game. Hopefully they will rise to the occasion and reciprocate this and in turn challenge you.

4. Write positive, supportive, in-depth comments for a month on a stranger’s blog.

Learn how to push someone else to success. It works the same way for yourself. By promoting and supporting another blog, you gain real credibility. Something that will do you well in the future. Building a name for yourself amongst their readers can only help your blog. Anyway, it is the good thing to do. Try it sometime.

5. Write 3 sensible 200-word sentences about different topics.

Learn to write something longer and more meaningful than “Great post!” You’ll find all sorts of opportunities opening up for you. Too many times comments on blogs are neither useful nor applicable. You wouldn't want someone to leave meaningless comments on your blog. Learn how to leave meaningful comments on other blogs.

Re: 5 Ways to improve your blog.

I was going to comment on the first point, but then I loved each one more than the next. I think the idea of learning more (via forums) and capitalizing on your most popular post is a wonderful idea.

I did number 1 with a post about forgiveness. It didn't get quite as many comments, but it still did very well. Thanks Robert.

Psst. Typo! "I guess you answered yes to all of these questions. Who wouldn't you? "
