image Wow what a week. And it's not over yet. This week has been a week of fantastic news in the realm of Technology. The big Giants have not held back with the punches.  It seemed that it belonged to the Social Networking giant Facebook. New releases, acquisitions, it’s fantastic.

It started off, well for me at least, with Google. Google recently opened up a preview of their new Caffeine update Search engine. For a while, a large Google team have been working on a secret project: Read more about it @ Google goes hyper with Caffeine.

Then we were whisked away to the war between Facebook and Google with Twitter caught in the middle. Facebook releasing the news of their acquisition of FriendFeed. August 10 2009, a deal is agreed upon between Facebook and FriendFeed for Facebook to acquire FriendFeed. It is estimated that the deal is worth a cool $50 million. Read more about it @ Facebook acquires FriendFeed. Now what Twitter?

It never stopped there because Facebook also Rolled out implementation of Microsoft Live Search, which allows members of the social network to search the Web without leaving the site. Read about it at Mashable

Facebook was not finished. News then broke of Facebook launching a newer, simplified version of the Facebook platform, called Facebook Lite. Check a screen shot out at Facebook Lite - Like Twitter. This does seem to be a fist in the face of Google, but it seems that Twitter will be caught in the middle.

Microsoft could not ignore the headlines. One would have expected them to show their face amongst the news breakers. They released their next SQL server version for preview. MS SQL Server 2008 R2 CTP was released to the public.  Check it out at Microsoft’s SQL Server 2008 R2 Available for download.

But then the real shocker was the news that Microsoft was banned from selling their own MS Word in the US. A USA Judge, on Tuesday 11 August, banned Microsoft from selling MS Word in the United States. More about this amazing story in the post: Microsoft Banned from selling Word in the US.

Re: Week in review – And what a week.

i wonder when the staff in these giant companies sleep. coz even when you visit their blogs and sites in the middle of the night, they are still active. how they are organised i will never know. and dont they get tired of trying to outdo each other all the time? not everyone is built for the corporate world
