PDF Search Engines

pdf With all the hype over the last few weeks and months concerning Google and Bing our focus is drawn away from the little guy. Although these two search engines, and Yahoo, are the big boys, and they are the ones who we turn to in time of need. They often do not return the results that you are looking for. Often the search results are crowded with unrelated searches. It is then we need to turn to search engines dedicated to specific topics.

The internet is a very crowded place. It is a galaxy of knowledge and information. Often times that information is free. PDF, Portable Document Format, is the document format of choice on the internet. Many of these documents have been made available to us for free. A while back I wrote a blog post on Free tutorials for download. These are mainly in PDF format.

Searching for a specific type of PDF document can be a daunting task. Especially if you have to wade through tons of unrelated search results.

Did you know that Google, Bing, and Yahoo are not the only search engines around. Enter in the PDF search engines. These are Search engines specifically designed to only return PDF documents that meet your search criteria. Below is a list of a few of the popular PDF Search Engines. Some of them search for more than just PDF documents. In fact you might be able to find all sorts of eBooks. Some are powered by the likes of Google, some are propriety.

These are probably not the only ones available. But its a start.

You could also try using some for the advanced commands in Google. Try search using a search term that includes “inurl:pdf” in the end or “intitle:pdf”. This limits Google to search and return only results that have PDF in the url, or PDF in the title.
