Nerd

Nerd is a term often bearing a derogatory connotation or stereotype, that refers to a person who passionately pursues intellectual activities, esoteric knowledge, or other obscure interests rather than engaging in more social or popular activities. Therefore, a nerd is often excluded from physical activity and considered a loner by peers or will tend to associate with like-minded people. The question is though, are you a Nerd? How do you know. Well here is a list of “You know you’re a Nerd when”.

You Know you are a Nerd when …

You refer to your home as 127.0.0.1

You can actually understand 001110001001 1001101001011 1001110001010 1001101001100 1001110001011 1001101001101 1001110001100 1001101001110 1001110001101 1001101001111

You get up at 4:30 a, just to get your desired Facebook name.

You have a Mac wallpaper on your PC

You dream 8bit, your nightmares are 64bit

You know all the RGB codes of all the web safe colours

You say ‘gg’ to your wife or husband before you go to bed.

You try to identify font names in movie credits.

You ping yourself to make sure you’re alive.

You I vocalise emoticons while talking, colon capital d.

At 40 you still live in your mothers house (Sims)

You have five computers in you house, and you live alone.

You browse the Internet by looking at the page source.

You read motherboard manuals for pleasure.

Re: How do you know you're a Nerd?

If you've EVER tinkered with anything not mainstream, like Robotics or Warhammer; you're a Nerd.

If you recreate famous movie scenes with Lego dioramas; you're a nerd

If you have ever said 'lol' at a real people gathering; trust me, you're a nerd.

Also, "if you read XKCD". :D

How does one distinguish between a Nerd and a Geek? Is it that Geeks have more social skills than Nerds?

William,

LOL. More social skills but not much. Mind you, check out all the Geeks on the Social Networking sites. Maybe their (our) social skills are just different

Nerd or Geek I am definitely not. Anti-socail with hermit tendancies, for sure.

Re: How do you know you’re a Nerd?

Hilarious! As a person who loves to chat and be social, I never quite knew if I was a nerd or Geek. I think Geek. I must admit, I am one who tries to figure out fonts on movie titles, and when I make a wrong turn while driving, I always say "apple-x" (I'm an older Mac person from when the command key used to be the apple key). I've always thought being able to write code like one would write a letter would qualify for nerd-dom, but alas I only know HTML and CSS, which aren't "real" coding languages. I have to say, I love being a computer person! In a funny way, we're all hip these days with the adventures in world-wide technology.
