International Character Keyboard shortcuts.

If you ever use international characters such as ã, è, ï,ñ, then you know what a pain it is to get these characters to appear in your document. If you use these frequently then I bet you wish that there were some keyboard shortcut you could use, instead of using the dreaded Symbol window. Wouldn’t it be better if these characters were at your fingertips as apposed to being buried inside the Symbol window.
Well your sanity is our concern. You can correctly get the characters you want if you know the correct key combinations. Below is a short list of some of these international characters and they shortcuts to use to display them.
- To create accents such as à,è,ì ... you would use Ctrl + ` then press the letter you need.
- To create accents such as á, é, í ... you would use Ctrl + ‘ then press the letter you need.
- To create accents such as â and ê ... you would use Ctrl + ^ (which is actually Ctrl + Shift + 6) then press the letter you need.
- To create accents such as ä, ë,ï ... you would use Ctrl + : (which is actually Ctrl + Shift + ;) then press the letter you need.
- To create accents such as ñ ... you would use Ctrl + ~ (which is actually Ctrl + Shift + `) then pres the letter you need.
Hope this helps you. Enjoy.

Re: International Character Keyboard shortcuts.
Robert! You have saved me HOURS of frustration! My Alt 136 and Alt 137 has been worn away through the years... Umm... is there also a shortcut to show the degrees symbol? As in degrees (the little o)Celcius or Fahrenheit? Thanks a mil! By Amanda Schreyer on

HI Amanda,
Other than using the Alt + 0176 key combination, you can also use Alt + @ (Alt + Shift+ 2) then press the space bar. That should give you the degree symbol. But I find that this particular shorcut only works in MS Word 2000 and above. But then again, you could create your own custom auto correct key combination. By Robert Bravery on
